Santa Siting on Noahs Ark
SOLD!
This is one of my favorite designs. I had such fun painting the wood ark to resemble the early German flat bottom arks. Of course, I took a few artistic liberties. The base of the ark is 12 1/2"long X 4 1/2" wide. The ark itself measures 8" X 4". The heighth including santa is 10 3/4" tall. Santa alone is approximately 6". He wears a very faded coat and hat made from an old blanket (wool). It is trimmed in white wool. His pants are blue flannel also trimmed in white wool. There is a jingle bell at the end of his hat. Santa's face, hands, and boots are sculpted then molded and poured in chalkware. Each is hand-painted. He carries a feather tree sprig in his left hand and a reproduction Christmas book in his right hand. On his back is a flannel bag filled with Christmas greenery and holly berries. Everything on the ark is hand-painted. ON the front of the ark between the windows I wrote in pencil, "Merry Christmas, Little One, 1887". Once I saw a very old ark and someone had written a message in pencil. I thought this was very unique and special. The botton "frieze" is painted with small holly and berries. Around the second floor round windows, I have painted Christmas wreaths with little red berries. At each end is a small, hand-made German look sheep covered in vintage batting. And it wouldn't be an ark without the white dove painted on the roof, which is painted in the wavy pattern like many of the old arks. There is a lot of detail in this design. signed and dated.
